PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The incumbent will be responsible for the overall management of the Marula platinum mining and processing operations, by ensuring their operational excellence, profitability and sustainability. This role demands oversight across functional areas, including mining and processing operations, safety, employee relations, business improvement and environmental management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant NQF level 7 in Mining Engineering is essential.
- Valid Blasting Certificate, Mine Overseer Certificate & Mine Managers Certificate is essential.
- Minimum of 15 years mining related working experience, of which 5 years as a mine manager, 5 years as a mine overseer and 3 years as a shift supervisor is essential
- Knowledge of risk assessment methods and control mechanisms.
- Awareness of safety legislation, regulations and practices within mining operations.
- Must have a valid medical certificate or must be medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and execute the mines and processing business plans in alignment with corporate objectives.
- Set and achieve production and financial targets.
- Lead and inspire a diverse team of professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Oversee all mining and processing operations to achieve optimal production and efficiency
- Ensure production targets and profit margins are achieved cost-effectively on a sustainable basis for the mine
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and training programs
- Lead initiatives to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable mining practices
- Implement cutting-edge technologies and practices to enhance mine productivity and sustainability.
- Ensure environmental and social concerns are managed as a strategic focus area at the shaft level.
- Optimize operational costs while maximizing output and profitability.
Monitor financial performance and provide regular reports to the executive team. - Implement effective workforce planning, retention, and succession strategies.
- Implement and maintain sound people management practices to ensure a productive workforce.
- Maintain strong relationships with government authorities, local communities, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure transparent and proactive communication regarding mine operations and community impact.
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Lead compliance audits and address any gaps effectively.
- Uphold high standards of ethical conduct and governance.
- Drive innovation and the adoption of new technologies in mining operations.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Implement best practices and process improvements across the mine.
