This position will be part of the dynamic team based at SMC Smelter reporting to the Senior Plant Operator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • 6 O level passes including Mathematics, English Language and Science
  • Good understanding of SHEQ standards and procedures.
  • Previous work experience in a processing or mining environment.
  • Work experience in converter operations will be an added advantage.

LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:

  • Good communication and organisational skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Conducting pre-use inspection of equipment and operating checklists and reporting malfunctions to the Senior Plant Operator for corrective action
  • Punching converter tuyeres, maintenance of converter tuyeres and quenching of punch bars.
  • Cleaning converter hood, silica chutes and granulation spoon.
  • Drilling converter tuyeres before installation of tuyere bodies.
  • Assisting crane driver in the Aisle.
  • Taking silica, converter matte and converter slag samples to Laboratory for analysis.
  • Tracking of equipment availability and urgently reporting of breakdowns to minimise impact on production
  • Monitoring equipment performance and logging of plant parameters on respective sectional log sheets
  • Carrying out housekeeping in the section and adhering to the Five Point Safety System, Platinum Rules, Safe Production Rules, and requirements of the companys Business Management Systems policy.
