PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To service and maintain Electric and Diesel Locomotives as per Rail Regulator Standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 Certificate (with Mathematics and Physical Science) NQF Level 4 is essential.
• Electrical Fitter Trade Certificate (Red seal) is essential.
• 4-6 years previous working experience especially on 8E Electric locomotives.
• UM10B(Class91) Diesel and U26C (Class 34-400) diesel would be an advantage.
• Valid medical certificate or medically fit to obtain such certificate.

COMPETENCIES:

• Must have a sound knowledge of electrical rotating machinery and their control circuits(High voltage and medium voltage)is essential.
• Must have good knowledge of fault finding on electrical and mechanical equipment is essential.
• Must have a good knowledge of brake systems and the ability to do brake tests.
• Reading of advance schematics and drawings is essential.
• Good knowledge of PLC operating systems and electronic card control systems and fault finding on these systems would be an advantage.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Computer literacy(MS Office)is essential, and SAP would be an advantage.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Services and conducts preventative maintenance on a regular basis to prevent breakdowns and equipment failure
• on locomotives.
• Attends to breakdowns are timeously and effectively to minimise equipment standing time and avoid production
• delays.
• Ensures that all work is carried out in a safe manner as per Impala safety standards, rules and procedures.
• Ensures that all defects are reported to the relevant Foreman without delay.
• Effectively supervises, delegates and takes charge of subordinates.
• Ensures that all legal appointments are inspected and maintained on a regular basis.
• Ensures that all the SAP job cards and service papers are completed and handed in for processing.
• To Effectively execute instructions of the loco shed Foreman.
• To comply with ISO 45001 Occupational health & safety management system standards.
