PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To supervise safe hoisting activities and shaft maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent is essential.
  • Onsetter Certificate is essential.
  • Blasting Certificate is essential.
  • At least 5 years relevant shaft working experience.
  • MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace is essential.
  • Understanding of the functions and the operation of signalling arrangements and safety devices in a shaft is essential.
  • Understanding of shaft signals is essential.
  • Knowledge of the importance of maintaining the shaft in good working order is essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of blasting products and their usage in an underground hard rock environment is essential.
  • Knowledge of the importance of the safe movement of men, material and equipment in the bank and shaft area is essential.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Maintain a shaft schedule for all hoisting activities.
  • Ensure compliance to shaft schedules.
  • Conduct shaft examinations (all steelwork, concrete structures, pipes, cables, etc.).
  • Conduct regular checks on all shaft machinery and equipment.
  • Check and maintains shaft ore passes.
  • Coordinate shaft maintenance.
  • Prepare conveyances for shaft examination and repairs.
  • Receive, handles, stores and issues explosives and accessories at a workplace.
  • Coordinate schedules for the transport of mineral, material and equipment.
  • Compile such reports and keeps statistics as may be required.
