DEPARTMENT / DOMAIN: PROCESSING - SMELTER
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To operate a 30-ton crane for the safe lifting and movement of heavy machinery and equipment according to instruction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12/NQF Level 4 Certificate is essential.
- 30 Ton Overhead Crane driving certificate.
- Basic Rigging certificate is essential.
- 1-3 years Crane driving is essential.
- Medical Certificate or medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate
COMPETENCIES:
- Operating cranes, lift trucks, a cab controlled overhead crane
- Be able to operate overhead/gantry cranes
- Perform basic fire fighting
- Perform basic first aid
- Problem solving skills
- Basic self-leadership skills
- Basic communication skills
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Ensures pre-use check lists are conducted prior to the use of the cranes.
- Checks and ensures that masses to be moved are correctly specified and in line with the capabilities of the crane.
- Operates the crane in accordance with laid down procedures.
- Follows work instructions and orders.
- Ensures proper understanding of the required actions and orders.
- Assists with the rigging of material and equipment to be moved or lifted.
- Conducts minor maintenance on equipment
- Complete log sheets
- Implements initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs within scope and assists with the implementation thereof to contribute to the achievement of operational objectives.
- Supports and participates in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimisation.
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
- Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
