PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Responsible for provision of technical and operational system support to the process division. The role also encompasses the maintenance and optimisation of network infrastructure, support software and hardware systems in order maximise the capacity provided to the production process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 /STD 10 (NQF 4) is essential.
  • National Diploma or National Technical Diploma in Process Instrumentation with a Trade Test Certification or NQF 6 Equivalent
  • 2-3 years' experience within a mining environment.
  • 3 years Underground Instrumentation experience within a mining environment is advantageous.
  • 1 Year Programming Experience (Allen Bradley Smart Overloads (E3-Plus and E300) and VSDs is advantageous.
  • Experience in setting up OT networking (DeviceNet and Ethernet/IP) is advantageous.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Contributes to the alignment of control solutions performance management to the organisations control solution standard.
  • Ensures the optimisation of control solutions performance by evaluating and managing network functionality.
  • Performs calibration of all instruments, densitometers, and weigh-meters as per required systems and procedures.
  • Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Executes maintenance of hardware and software services by undertaking and overseeing continued configuration, repair and testing of systems.
  • Monitors and maintains the control system network infrastructure, by scrutinising the network performance and by troubleshooting any problem areas.
  • Performs standby duty, inclusive of extended work hours as and when required.
  • Attends to and sustains the operating and application systems aimed at preventing unwanted variations whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates.
  • Applies advanced control solutions to facilitate optimised solutions performance.
  • Exercises information management solutions aimed at improving data sourcing, transmission, storage, dissemination, and information management tools, practices, and procedures for the organisation.
  • Carries out the optimisation of control solutions by regulating a stable network.
  • Aids in providing technical direction and standardises infrastructure by utilising industry and Process Control Department outlined practices.
  • Adheres and complies to all procedures and systematic requirements as depicted by the organisation.
  • Identifies and resolves problem/issues on the current systems and infrastructure.
  • Ensures that subordinate(s) have clear work expectations and plans.
  • Identifies high risk and safety critical areas.
  • Identifies areas of process instability and implements corrective action within these sectors.
  • Identifies areas of poor availability and prioritises issues based on complexity, urgency and potential negative impact.
  • Supports and participates in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimisation.
