This position will manage and oversee the implementation of Zimplats Local Enterprise Development (LED) strategies and programs by fostering and developing viable local businesses, enhancing community enterprise development, and embedding empowerment into the company's long-term value creation strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

A Bachelors degree in Business OR Public Administration, Economics, Development Studies, Law, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related field.

Post graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent an added advantage.

Minimum of 8 - 10 years relevant experience, with at least 5 years in management role focusing on empowerment, local enterprise development, procurement, or community development programs.

Experience with development NGOs.

Knowledge of small to medium enterprises business set up, capital raising and systems deployment.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

Proven track record of working with Government ministries, regulators, and community leadership on empowerment or socio-economic development projects.

Experience in designing and implementing compliance frameworks, enterprise support initiatives, and supplier development programs.

Strong financial and business acumen with experience in business management, local enterprise development, project management and evaluation, and sustainability programs implementation.

Proven entrepreneurial mindset with ability to identify and drive opportunities.

Demonstrated experience in operational business turnaround.

Strong project planning, execution, and management skills.

Solid understanding of social development and empowerment dynamics.

Effective stakeholder, social and community engagement skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review of the existing local enterprise development (LED) strategies and local economic development priorities within our area of operation.
  • Drive preferential procurement initiatives for LEDs by supporting and capacitating local enterprise suppliers, ensuring their competitiveness and alignment with business needs.
  • Advise LED business owners on ways to improve profitability and diversification.
  • Conduct regular consultations with LED businesses to understand pressure points of their businesses and recommend strategies to turnaround their businesses.
  • LEDs market development and/or value chain development.
  • Strengthen local enterprises in the field of financial management and business development
  • Develop and implement entrepreneurship and training framework for LEDs in line with Zimplats ESG and empowerment strategy.
  • Facilitating regular contacts, workshops and seminars with local business and local community leaders on economic development best practices.
  • Enforce latest trends, policies, and innovations in local enterprise development and governance
  • Build up the economic capacity of our local area to improve its economic future and the quality of life for all.
  • Support growth of LED businesses through market linkages to reduce reliance on Zimplats as the sole off-taker of their products and services
  • Identify new funding opportunities and access to capital to support local enterprise development
  • Capacity building of LEDS to ensure that they remain in compliance with legal and other requirements governing their line of business
  • Provide strategic reports and recommendations to Zimplats Management and the Board on community economic development, and local enterprise performance.
