PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To provide an engineering technical service to a section at a Business Area. The role of a Diesel Mechanic is to repair service and maintain all diesel-hydraulics and electro-hydraulics, vehicles and machinery so that optimal utilization of the equipment can be achieved.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
- Certified competent as a Diesel Mechanic (Trade Certificate
- 3 years Diesel Mechanic experience in a mining environment
COMPETENCIES:
- Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
- Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
- Builds, supports and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implements remedial actions where required
- Implements initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs within scope and assists with the implementation thereof to contribute to the achievement of operational objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs administration and Artisan maintenance administration functions according to role requirements.
- Compiles work priority list and determine resource requirements.
- Communicates resource requirements.
- Compiles and completes accurate reports including safety, injury, hazard, risk and incident reports, shift and work order reports and ad hoc reports.
- Completes and approves allocated work orders.
- Completes planned maintenance schedules for stock items required.
- Reports defects and abnormalities to appropriate supervisor or manager.
- Ensures clear teamwork expectations and plans.
- Provides input to the planning process within the area of control and execute the approved plan in accordance with policies, procedures and processes to ensure achievement of production targets.
- Performs equipment maintenance services according to the required standards and specifications.
- Implements maintenance schedules.
- Adheres to safety and legal requirements.
- Makes materials and equipment available for the shift requirements.
- Co-coordinates multi-task team members to complete assigned work tasks or orders.
- Approves inspection orders.
