PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely install, maintain and repair electrical systems, equipment and machinery
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science or NQF 4 equivalent is essential.
- Recognised relevant Trade Qualification or NTC 2 specialised course
- Minimum 3 years' experience as an Electrician
- Minimum 2 years' experience is essential on the following:
- MV (33 kV & 6.6 kV) cable installation, termination, fault finding & repairs
- Construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of MV electrical networks
- Substation maintenance
- MV testing equipment
- Conveyor maintenance and repairs
- Maintenance and repairs of overhead cranes
- Valid Medical certificate is essential or must be medically fit.
COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the
- Understand basic electrical and mechanical engineering principles
- Demonstrate an understanding of the uses and safety aspect associated with flammable energy sources
- Understand basic electronic theory and components
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic programmable logic controllers
- Demonstrate an understanding of fault-finding techniques on field instrumentation
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Principles of Process Control Loops
- Demonstrate an awareness of customer service
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Attends to callouts with regards to electrical breakdowns.
- Installs batteries.
- Checks battery systems on underground battery loco units and for water and acid levels.
- Tests batteries for dead cells and replaces defective batteries.
- Designs and constructs Single and Three Phase Circuits.
- Designs and installs Electrical Wire Ways.
- Constructs and commissions Low/Medium/High Voltage networks.
- Wires and commissions three phase electrical circuits.
- Joins Medium/High Voltage cables.
- Installs and commissions: Single Phase AC and Three phase AC machines and control gear
- Installs and commissions: Direct current (DC) machines.
