POSITION DESCRIPTION

The position will be part of the dynamic team based at Third Concentrator Plant Engineering reporting to the Foreman - Instrumentation and Control.

JOB TITLE – Technician - Instrumentation and Control

JOB GRADING – C4

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Class 1 Instrumentation and Control Technician

• A diploma in Instrumentation and Control

• 5 O level passes including Mathematics, English Language and Science

• At least 5 years working experience as Instrument Technician in a heavy processing plant, or a related industry

• Process control experience in a similar environment is essential.

• Knowledge of the following types of instruments, but not limited to flow, pressure, level, and temperature, analytical, loadcell systems, belt scales

• Conversant with standard instrumentation, Siemens PLCs, Profibus and WinCC SCADA systems

• Able to read and interpret P & IDs, schematic wiring drawings, functional specifications and control philosophies

• Knowledge of the Business Management Systems (BMS), ISO 9001, ISO14001, and ISO 55 000

LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:

• A self-starter with excellent interpersonal, planning and problem-solving skills
• Supervision experience with strong communication skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carrying out repair, maintenance, and preventive maintenance work on all C & I equipment and related control systems to comply with product technical specifications
• Execute C & I projects in line with accepted project management principles to enhance, improve and optimise operations

• Conduct SCADA and PLC changes including related software and hardware maintenance.\

• Control critical spares in sections.

• Assist with installation and commissioning of projects, be able to run small projects.

• Assist instrument mechs, foreman, operations engineers and managers with technical support and advanced technical skills.

• Ensure that instrumentation and safety specifications and standards are adhered to and followed
• Co-ordinate and monitor equipment availability to ensure adherence to production parameters

• Carry out equipment calibration and service

• Understand and ensure compliance with the health and safety regulations and quality standards of the organization
