PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To monitor, supervise and control the provision of quality health care, during night shift, according to the professional standards required including Infection prevention and control (IPC).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12/NQF Level 4 qualification is essential
  • Nursing diploma/degree is essential
  • Primary Health Care and Dispensing certificate is essential
  • Registration with the SA Nursing Council and SASOHN is essential
  • 3 years of working experience as a professional/Occupational nurse is essential
  • MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Give and receive ward report from colleagues
  • Ensures that quality nursing care is rendered to all patients
  • Assist with daily wards procedures e.g. vital signs, urine testing and admission of patients
  • Assist with total nursing care to all patients including bedridden
  • Does bed making in the ward
  • Assist patients to: X-ray, Theatre, Physiotherapy Department
  • Escorts patients to specialist and other institutions
  • Checks and facilitate allocation to his/her subordinates
  • Control IV infusions and recordings
  • Ensures that the preparations of the patients going for surgical intervention is done and the relevant prescribed drug is given
  • Prepare doctors round trolley
  • Responsible for the collection of blood specimens in the ward.
  • Assists with giving of treatments: Dressing, Medicines, Injections
  • Responsible for the management of the back and pressure points of the patients.
  • Responsible for retrieving blood specimen results from the computer.
  • Ensures that the ward is always clean and tidy, especially treatment and sluice rooms.
  • Ensures that all staff report for duty and reports any absentees.
  • Checks that night staff has enough resources for their shift.
  • Responsible for the orientation of new staff.
  • Carries out doctors prescriptions.
  • Responsible for observing the company procedures and policies.
  • Assumes responsibility when the professional nurse C2 is not available.
  • Assists with admissions and discharges
