PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Implementation of capital projects, facilitate process improvements, act as a liaison between management and the process, leading to enhanced overall production, and assist with design and problem-solving in the plants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • A relevant NQF level 7 qualification in Chemical Engineering.
  • A Project Management related qualification would be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years experience in Base Metal or PGM Hydrometallurgy, project management, process design, production, and technical supervision.
  • Sound knowledge on chemical engineering-, hydrometallurgical engineering- and metal accounting principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of environmental, safety and quality legislation, regulations and ISO systems.
  • Must be a team player with strong analytical-, problem-solving-, decision making- and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess strong communication-, report writing-, commercial- and business management skills.
  • Computer literacy, i.e., MS Office, PHA Works, MS Projects, and process-related simulation software.
  • Medically fit for BMR 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the effective implementation of chemical plant and process engineering design.
  • Develop, plan, and oversee capital projects.
  • Ensure effective process system design, including SCADA integration, PLC programming, fuzzy logic, and neural networks, by developing instrumentation control philosophies and tuning process control loops.
  • Design and conduct HAZOP studies effectively.
  • Perform metal accounting according to commissioning programmes, identify barriers, and produce metal balances.
  • Ensure effective mass and energy balancing and modelling.
  • Engage effectively with mechanical engineering and operational plant personnel.
  • Conduct a literature survey and test work, analyse results from tests, write and present reports, and develop, plan, and oversee laboratory and pilot plant tests/projects.
