POSITION BASED IN RUSTENBURG

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The primary objective of this role is to ensure the effective implementation of Implats Operational Risk Management Framework across all mining operations, with a particular focus on the Fatal Risk Control Protocols (FRCP) methodology and the Learning from Incidents (LFI) programme.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Risk Management or Safety Management.
  • Additional safety certifications are essential, including SAMTRAC, MSRM, COMSOC, Incident Investigation, and Risk Management.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Risk Officer or Chief Safety Officer within the platinum mining industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Practical experience in various risk assessment and investigation techniques; ICAM certification will be advantageous.
  • Self-motivated, action-oriented, and energetic individual with ability to foster trust, manage relationships, and embrace diversity.
  • Strong business acumen, excellent presentation skills, and the ability to coach and influence others.
  • Proven ability to facilitate risk assessments, conduct audits, and apply advanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Implement and monitor the Implats Operational Risk Management Framework across all operational sites.
  • Facilitate effective communication and reporting between operational risk teams and the corporate office.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of all 16 FRCPs across the group.
  • Conduct regular risk assessment reviews.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to ensure FRCPs are operationalized, embedded, and integrated into daily practices.
  • Oversee Critical Control Management (CCM) across the group, including evaluating control adequacy based on incident trends, conducting internal reviews, and providing regulatory feedback.
  • Conduct evaluations of incidents and high-potential incidents (HPIs) and participate in Group PHI review meetings.
  • Analyse regulatory instructions (Section 54/55) issued by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR), report findings and control improvements in response to regulatory directives.
  • Prepare and present professional, accurate, and data-driven reports to stakeholders up to executive level.
  • Support executive leadership in executing strategic and tactical risk initiatives and improvement programmes and serve as an escalation point for operational sites.
