DEPARTMENT / DOMAIN: BMR | LEACH INSTRUMENTS

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To ensure maximum plant/equipment availability by being fully competent in PLC Programming and SCADA configuration, control systems and networks to meet equipment control requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • NQF level 6 qualification in Instrumentation or Industrial Instrumentation.
  • A trade test as an instrument mechanician is essential.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as Technician in plant specific SCADA and PLC Networks programming is essential.
  • Experience in attending and contributing to HAZOP reviews.
  • Knowledge of plant specific chemical processes for instrument loop tuning for design and modification an added advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of process control systems and fieldbus configuration and installations.
  • Medically fit for Base Metal Refineries (BMR).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To advise and provide support to Instrument Technicians and Mechanicians on technical matters.
  • To liaise with different internal and external customers/suppliers on process requirements.
  • To investigate new technology and develop plans in terms of advancements to improve plant availability.
  • Maintaining spares and spares levels, ensure proper installation of instruments and adherence to all standards.
  • To conduct over inspections in area of responsibility.
  • To assist and collaborate with the Technical/Projects Department in project design that may include PLC programming and Scada requirements etc.
  • To oversee projects carried out by Instrument Technicians.
  • To provide technical expertise to the Plant Engineer/Manager and to attend HAZOP studies.
  • Lead root cause failure analyses for recurring instrumentation faults and provide detailed technical reports.
