PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To identify, quantify, evaluate, manage and optimize the mineral resource for Implats as a major platinum producer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- BSc Honours degree or equivalent in Geology is essential
- Registration as a Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific
- Professions (SACNASP) and a member of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) is essential
- Minimum of 1 – 3 Years Underground mining geology experience in the Bushveld Complex is essential
- Valid medical certificate or be medical fit to obtain such a certificate
COMPETENCIES:
- Must have a high level of computer literacy
- Must be skilled to operate specialized geological software programmes (Sable, Cadsmine, MicroStation, MRM, etc) and Datamine 3D Modelling software (Studio Mapper and Studio RM)
- Must have good communication skills
- Must have Geological report writing skills
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Scientifically identify and forecast ore body/mineral resources and formations per geological area
- Ensure effective/value-adding geological modelling is maintained, inclusive of forecast updates
- Provide professional advice and integrated communication to production and other mining disciplines for present and future mining
- Facilitate integrated participation in the planning and geological exploration of new mining areas
- Constantly monitor geological conditions to ensure efficient, economical and progressive mining
- Guide and manage the geological function of an operating unit, inclusive of managing Grade Control Observers/contractors effectively
- Compile standardized geological reports for management information purposes
- Effectively manage core drilling operations
