PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To monitor, supervise and control the provision of quality health care, during night shift, according to the professional standards required including Infection prevention and control (IPC).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 or NQF equivalent 4 is essential
- Nursing diploma/degree is essential
- Primary Health Care and Dispensing certificate is essential
- Registration with the SA Nursing Council and SASOHN is essential
- 3-5 years of working experience as a professional/occupational nurse is essential
- MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Responsible for the management of the ward in the absence of the chief professional nurse.
- Responsible for the health maintenance of all patients falling under jurisdiction of the relevant ward.
- Supervises all subordinates.
- Receives daily reports and hands over report at the end of shift.
- Checks and controls job allocations.
- Controls IV infusions and recordings.
- Ensures that the preparations for patients going for surgery are done.
- Ensures that all patients have received correct treatment.
- Assists with patients confined to bed and bedmaking.
- Prepares doctors round trolley.
- Assists with collection of prescribed specimens.
- Orders ward stock including schedule drugs.
- Participates in the wards stock taking.
- Assists with giving of treatment:
- Dressing
- Medicines
- Injections
- Monitors vital signs
- Orders and returns equipment from Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD).
- Ensures that the ward is clean and tidy at all times, especially treatment and sluice rooms.
- Reports all maintenance to be done in the ward
- Checks that all new admissions have been entered into the relevant books and register.
