The Role
As a Mortgage Underwriter, your expertise will be crucial in our client's core lending operations. Your responsibilities will include:
Efficiently complete and meticulously review mortgage applications, examining all supporting documentation to verify accuracy and ensure completeness.
Conduct thorough analysis of applicants' credit history and financial information to accurately assess eligibility and affordability.
Critically analyse the inherent risks within each application, proactively requesting additional information as necessary.
Vigilantly identify any signs of suspicious or fraudulent activity to protect both the customer and the Society.
Assess every customer's individual circumstances and the evidence presented, consistently striving for positive and fair customer outcomes.
Utilise your sharp analytical skills, to make well-reasoned mortgage lending judgements, sanctioning or declining applications.
Document and effectively communicate the rationale behind all application approvals or rejections to relevant stakeholders.
Act as a key point of contact for Mortgage Intermediaries, Branches, and internal Society teams, promptly addressing queries regarding the mortgage application process.
Ensure unwavering compliance with all regulatory standards, internal mortgage policies, procedures, and guidelines, including AML and KYC principles.
Contribute to the achievement of minimum KPI requirements and targets, playing a vital role in the team's overall success.
The Person
In order to be successful for this position, applicants must demonstrate the following Skills and Experience.
Minimum 5 GCSES including Math, English
Minimum 3 years experience working as a mortgage underwriter
Ability to make decisions regarding finacial applications
Confident engaging with customers and external clients
Exceptional attention to detail
Experience working within a structured fast-paced environment
