The Dairy Manager oversees the daily operations of the dairy farm, ensuring the health and productivity of the herd, quality milk production, efficient use of resources, and compliance with all hygiene, safety, and environmental regulations. The role requires strong leadership, animal husbandry expertise, and operational management skills.
Key Responsibilities:

Herd Management:

Monitor the health, breeding, feeding, and milking of dairy cows.

Implement and manage herd health programs including vaccinations, treatments, and routine vet care.

Maintain accurate records of milk production, reproduction, and health of livestock.

Milk Production:

Supervise the milking process to ensure hygiene and quality control.

Maintain proper functioning and cleanliness of milking equipment and storage facilities.

Ensure compliance with food safety standards and industry regulations.

Staff Supervision:

Manage and train farm staff including milkers, feeders, and support workers.

Prepare work schedules and monitor staff performance.

Promote safety awareness and proper handling of livestock.

Farm Operations:

Oversee feeding schedules, pasture management, and housing conditions.

Monitor inventory of feed, medicines, and supplies; manage orders and budgets.

Ensure maintenance of farm equipment and infrastructure.

Reporting & Compliance:

Prepare reports on productivity, costs, herd health, and farm performance.

Ensure compliance with animal welfare, environmental, and occupational health standards.

Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Dairy Management, or related field.

Minimum 35 years of experience in dairy or livestock management.

Strong knowledge of dairy cattle breeds, nutrition, reproduction, and disease prevention.

Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work early hours, weekends, and in rural/farm environments.

Familiarity with dairy farm management software is an advantage.
