The Emergency Dispatch Operator is responsible for responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinating dispatch services, and providing accurate and timely communication with emergency responders. This role requires quick decision-making, clear communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Receive and Prioritize Calls: Answer emergency (911) and non-emergency calls promptly and determine the nature and location of the incident.
  2. Dispatch Emergency Services: Coordinate the deployment of police, fire, medical, and other emergency services based on the situation.
  3. Maintain Communication: Keep constant communication with field units to monitor their status and provide updates as required.
  4. Provide Instructions: Deliver clear and concise instructions to callers, including life-saving procedures such as CPR, if necessary.
  5. Data Entry and Logging: Accurately record call information, service responses, and incident details into dispatch systems.
  6. Handle Multi-Line Systems: Efficiently manage multiple communication lines while prioritizing emergency situations.
  7. Monitor Systems and Alerts: Track alarm systems, weather alerts, and emergency broadcasts.
  8. Collaborate with Agencies: Work with local and regional emergency agencies to coordinate multi-agency responses when necessary.
  9. Adhere to Protocols: Follow established protocols and guidelines for emergency communication and dispatch procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in emergency dispatch is a plus.
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, radio equipment, and multi-line telephone systems.
  • Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
