About the job Civil Infrastructure Pipe Layer
Infracon is a full-service civil construction & industrial services group with job sites all over Western Canada. We are seeking an experienced Civil Infrastructure Pipe Layer to join our team. Reporting to the General Superintendent and Project-specific Managers, this position will initially be assigned to work on an underground utility project in Chetwynd, BC.
We are looking for candidates that have a demonstrated commitment to safety and construction experience in heavy civil pipe installations in an industrial or municipal setting combined with fundamental knowledge of best practices and planning for installation sequencing. The successful candidate must have valid HDPE pipe fuser certification.
Responsibilities:
- Be a safety leader and prioritize safety of yourself and others in all aspects of the job
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of project specifications in order to plan procedures for pipe installations sequencing
- Take direction from pipe foreman
- Read plan, survey grade sheets, and grade stakes
- Practices workplace safety and enforce company safety regulations and policies
- Inspects work to ensure that all specifications are met
- Work as a team with equipment operator and pipe crew
- Other duties and responsibilities to ensure the success of the company and its projects.
Requirements:
- The ideal candidate has 5 years construction experience in a heavy civil pipe installation role in a municipal or industrial setting
- Must have valid HDPE pipe fuser certification.
- Must be capable of working in trenches, excavations and manholes
- Experience and understanding of the technical nature of each project type (water, sewer, storm, hydro)
- Extensive knowledge of MMCD and other related standards
- Able to understand blueprints to determine locations and formation of pipe
- Excellent time management, problem-solving and communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both as part of a team and independently
- Commitment to being a safety leader
Safety Requirements:
- Valid non-restricted drivers license and clean driver abstract
- Required safety certifications: Occupational First Aid level 1 and SiteReady BC (CSTS)
- Corporate Orientations and WHIMIS 2015 provided
- Drug and Alcohol testing, as required
- Confined space certification or experience working in confined space is considered an asset
- Basic PPE to be supplied by the worker are boots, hardhat and glasses. Infracon will provide any specialized PPE.
Work Environment & Physical Demands: This position will be based at project sites outdoors with exposure to elements such as very cold temperatures, very hot temperatures, wind, flying dust and slipping hazards. The position may require the employee to frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, reach and kneel.
