Technical Superintendent (Bulk Carrier)

We are looking for an experienced Technical Superintendent to oversee the safe, efficient and cost-effective technical management of assigned bulk carrier vessels. This role will work closely with vessel crews, ship managers, shipyards and internal stakeholders to ensure vessels are maintained to high operational, safety, environmental and regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate will have prior sailing experience as Chief Engineer on dry bulk vessels and strong experience in technical management, budgeting and vessel performance monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day technical management of assigned bulk vessels to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations.
• Conduct vessel inspections and prepare reports on deficiencies, ensuring timely follow-up and close-out of corrective actions.
• Monitor maintenance, repairs and machinery performance, and follow up on technical issues with vessel crew and relevant stakeholders.
• Assist in preparing, monitoring and controlling technical budgets, including dry-docking, modifications and major repair costs.
• Analyze vessel operating costs and recommend improvements to enhance cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
• Plan, coordinate and monitor dry-dockings, repairs and vessel modifications to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Ensure compliance with flag, class and statutory requirements, and ensure deficiencies are rectified promptly.
• Oversee incident reporting and investigation of technical failures, ensuring effective resolution and proper documentation.
• Monitor newbuilding projects where applicable, including drawing reviews, shipyard supervision, sea trials and vessel delivery.
• Keep up to date with maritime regulations and industry developments, assessing their impact on vessel technical operations and maintenance.

Requirements

• Degree in Marine Engineering or relevant technical qualification.
• Minimum 2 years' experience sailing as Chief Engineer on dry bulk vessels.
• Good understanding of budget control, cost analysis and repair planning.
• Familiarity with engine types such as ME Electronic, MC Conventional and RT Flex.
• Able to work effectively with vessel crews, shipyards and internal stakeholders.
