Overview

Responsible for overseeing the technical performance, safety, and environmental compliance of assigned vessels, ensuring reliable and cost-effective operations aligned with company and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable maritime regulations, including international safety standards, quality frameworks, environmental requirements, and flag/port state rules.
  • Provide technical guidance and shore-based support to vessel crews as needed.
  • Monitor vessel condition and performance through regular reporting, data tracking, and analysis of technical and operational metrics.
  • Investigate incidents and non-conformities, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support and participate in audits, inspections, and management system reviews, ensuring follow-up actions are completed.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance, repairs, and dry-docking activities where required.
  • Act as a backup for other fleet/vessel managers when necessary.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the fleet and technical management processes.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned in line with business needs.

Accountability & Performance Measures

  • Delivery of safe, compliant, and disruption-free vessel operations.
  • Achievement of client and company performance targets (KPIs).
  • Effective management of technical risks, costs, and vessel reliability.

Qualifications

  • Seagoing experience as Chief Engineer on Bulk Carrier for at least 2 years (w/o shore experience)
  • Shore based experience as vessel manager of Bulk Carrier
  • Good command of oral and written English.
  • Basic computer knowledge & environmental focused.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills in order to develop close relationships with shipboard staff, vessel owners, charterers as well as internal and external support functions.
