Assistant Executive (Vessel IT)
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Executive (Vessel IT) for one of our global shipping clients. This person will provide first-level helpdesk support to vessels, assisting with day-to-day IT operational issues and supporting IT specialists in project implementation, vessel infrastructure, and cybersecurity management. This role plays a key support function in maintaining vessel IT systems efficiency, stability, and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Regular travel to vessels (locally and overseas) to provide onsite IT support, perform system setups, and support project implementation onboard ships. Standby or after-office-hour support may be required when operationally necessary.
- Provide first-level IT helpdesk support to vessel users for hardware, software, network, and communication issues, managing incidents and service requests via ticketing systems.
- Support troubleshooting of onboard IT systems and end-user devices, escalating complex or unresolved issues as required.
- Assist IT teams in vessel IT projects including system deployment, hardware refresh, and connectivity upgrades onboard vessels.
- Support cybersecurity compliance activities including system patching, antivirus updates, access control, and monitoring of system performance and security alerts.
- Perform basic system monitoring, routine maintenance, updates, and patching under supervision.
- Coordinate with vessel users, vendors, and internal IT teams to resolve issues and support project execution.
- Support inventory tracking of onboard IT and cybersecurity equipment.
- Maintain basic system, asset, and incident documentation.
- Participate in user training, awareness programmes, and onboard IT support initiatives.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred
- Preferably holds IT infrastructure or networking certifications (e.g. Microsoft-related certifications or equivalent)
- Relevant certifications in IT service management, Microsoft 365, or basic cybersecurity are an advantage (not mandatory)
- Knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, VPN, backup, and firewall concepts preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in IT infrastructure support (PCs, networks, servers)
- Exposure to marine or remote site IT environments is an advantage but not essential
