Backend Java Developer

About the Role:
Our client is hiring a Server Software Developer / Engineer to join their growing development team in Co. Tipperary. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge backend systems, where you'll contribute to the design, implementation, and support of scalable and efficient software features. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to build high-performance backend services that power great user experiences.

Co. Tipperary (4 days per week on-site)

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement new backend features and improvements.

• Resolve bugs and refactor code for performance and maintainability.

• Translate business and product requirements into functional and scalable backend systems.

• Collaborate with frontend teams (Web/Android) to optimise performance and responsiveness.

• Support test strategy development and help drive quality across the software stack.

• Take ownership of new features from development through deployment and production support.

Key Skills & Experience Required:

• A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Proven experience in backend Java development roles.

• Strong proficiency with relational databases.

• Solid understanding of RESTful API design.

• Experience working with Microservices architectures using Spring Boot and Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).

• Good knowledge of version control systems such as Git/Github.

• Exposure to DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines.

• Ability to write developer-level tests.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and debugging capabilities.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable:

• Experience with Java and/or Kotlin.

• Experience working in Agile Scrum teams.

• Familiarity with distributed computing systems.

• Exposure to web development environments.

• Prior experience working with international or remote teams.

• Experience supporting highly available systems at scale.
