Role Overview

We are seeking a practical and reliable Maintenance Assistant to support scheduled maintenance tasks, laboratory facility upkeep, equipment maintenance, and general repair activities within a testing, inspection, and certification environment.

The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with overall maintenance in laboratory operations, ensuring laboratory support systems such as gas and water systems function smoothly, carrying out routine inspections, supporting repairs, and maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Maintenance Support

• Complete scheduled maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Assist with overall maintenance activities related to laboratory operations.
• Monitor gas systems and water systems within laboratory premises to ensure work can continue without delays.
• Support smooth day-to-day laboratory operations by responding to maintenance requirements on time.

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Conduct regular inspections, calibration support, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Support maintenance of pumps, water baths, and other specialized laboratory machinery.
• Diagnose and resolve basic technical issues related to laboratory equipment and infrastructure.
• Support repairs related to electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and general maintenance systems.
• Coordinate with external contractors for complex repairs or installation work when required.

Preventive Maintenance & Safety Compliance

• Assist in developing and following preventive maintenance schedules.
• Perform routine checks and adjustments according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff to maintain a safe working environment.
• Monitor safety protocols and report potential hazards or risks.
• Assist in implementing safety improvements and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Laboratory Upgrades & Technical Support

• Assist in planning and executing laboratory renovations, upgrades, or relocations.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure work is completed on time with minimal disruption.
• Provide technical support to laboratory staff on the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
• Stay updated on maintenance requirements and recommend repairs, upgrades, or replacements when needed.
• Attend to additional tasks assigned by management.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum GCE O/L qualification.
• Certificate or Diploma from NAITA or a recognized vocational training centre will be preferred.
• Previous experience in a related maintenance field will be an advantage.
• Practical skills in areas such as carpentry, decorating, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs.
• Knowledge of common electrical and mechanical items and how to repair them.
• Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, maintenance tools, and safety equipment.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Ability to work under pressure and coordinate several activities at the same time.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Positive attitude, punctuality, and willingness to learn.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
