Summary

We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Systems Engineer to support a data center migration project for our enterprise client. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong experience in Azure-to-on-prem data migration, VMware builds, and enterprise infrastructure support. The selected individual will be instrumental in planning and executing the transition from cloud to on-premise environments while maintaining operational stability. This is a high-visibility role with the potential for direct hire at the end of the contract.

Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of infrastructure and services from Azure cloud to on-premise environments
• Design, build, and maintain VMware-based virtual infrastructure, including new system builds and resource optimization
• Provide in-depth systems engineering support across Windows and virtualization platforms
• Develop and document repeatable processes for system builds, migrations, and upgrades
• Ensure system reliability and performance during and after migration phases
• Collaborate with internal IT teams on configuration, testing, patching, and deployment
• Maintain security and compliance posture throughout infrastructure changes

Skills and Key Competencies:

• Proven experience migrating systems from Azure cloud to on-prem environments
• Expertise in VMware ESXi/vSphere, vCenter, and virtualization best practices
• Strong foundation in Windows Server (2016 and newer), Active Directory, and Group Policy
• Experience in PowerShell scripting and automation of infrastructure tasks
• Knowledge of enterprise backup and storage systems
• Familiarity with patch management, SCCM, and OS deployments
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in complex environments
• Excellent documentation and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or senior-level systems administration
• Familiarity with Office 365, Exchange, and security hardening techniques
