About the job Nursing Officer of Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)

The Nursing Officer for NICU is a key member of the hospital clinical team. He / She delivers safe, competent, individualized patient centered holistic care to an optimum level, by utilizing nursing process. Assists in the management of the NICU during the assigned shift for the clinical care of patients and operation of the units. Plans, directs and coordinates medical, surgical and health services, sets and carries out policies, goals and procedures for the department; evaluates the quality of the staff’s work and develops reports and budgets. Assures that the needs of the babies and doctors in the NICU and associated areas are met, resulting in excellent outcomes. Serves as the acting Nurse Supervisor during their absence.


Education and Experience profile:

  • Must have a B. Sc. Degree in Nursing (or Comprehensive Nursing) from recognized Institution.
  • Registered with the Uganda Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • Post Basic Diploma in area of specialty preferred.
  • Minimum six (6) years as a Registered Nurse or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years as Senior Assistant Nursing Officer in NICU or equivalent
