About the job Consultant of Psychiatry & Mental Health Support

The Consultant of Psychiatry is actively working  for the mental health services within ISHU to ensure the current developmental, treatment, and psycho-social needs of children, youth, and families are met. They will help the Head of Unit  to ensure that the policies, standards and procedures related to mental health and addictions are maintained, applied and communicated to staff and are within the legal framework of Ministerial reporting requirements. They are responsible to provide direction and supervision of the Medical Officers and to ensure the provision of holistic services for children, youth, and families that is culturally appropriate and consistent with the philosophy and goals established by ISHU.


Education and Experience profile:

  • A MCh.B. or its equivalent from a recognized University
  • A M.Med. in Psychiatric or its equivalent
  • Must be registered (or meet the requirements for registration, if currently working abroad) to the Ugandan Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in Hospital in a Health Counselling & Support Unit or in a Psychiatric Unit or their equivalent.
