Why This Role Is Important

You'll play a vital role in delivering balanced meals tailored to residents dietary needs, including those with allergies, cultural requirements, or medical conditions such as dysphagia. This position supports both resident wellbeing and overall care home operations.

Core Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Head Chef or Cook to prepare healthy, balanced meals according to resident preferences and dietary requirements.

Assist in preparing special diets (e.g. soft, diabetic-friendly) as directed.

Support with plating and serving meals in a timely manner, observing resident choice and portion control.

Maintain cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas, oversee cleaning schedules, pot washing, and equipment maintenance in line with COSHH and hygiene standards.

Manage stock levels, replenish supplies, and minimise food waste through efficient stock control systems.

Record food temperatures, note any issues, and escalate concerns to supervising staff promptly.

Ideal Applicant Will Be

Caring, respectful, and reliable, with a focus on serving vulnerable residents with dignity.

Familiar with kitchen safety and food hygiene best practices, ideally holding or willing to work toward a food hygiene certificate.

Comfortable handling physical kitchen tasks prepping, dishwashing, cleaning, and serving under routine conditions.

Able to work well within a team or independently, manage multiple tasks, and react calmly under pressure.

Attentive to detail, with a proactive approach to hygiene and food standards (CQC/COSHH).
