Job Purpose:

To manage / control all inbound and out bound flow of cargo through the warehouse. Complete control of shipments in line with QSHE standards set

Job Function:

Key Performance Areas

  • Ensure the buildings / yards / facilities & equipment are compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations and requirements
  • Ensure all staff complies with Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations and requirements
  • Manage security
  • Implement and manage cargo handling protocols and staff to ensure all cargo handled through the warehouse is handled in a manner which meets HSE specifications
  • To manage the set down area in the warehouse and can identify the whereabouts of all cargo efficiently
  • Ensure the correct equipment is utilized to handle cargo / containers
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced in accordance with required milestones to maintain operating efficiency
  • Ensure there is always sufficient diesel available
  • Ensure the cargo is packed for export in a manner which negates damage in transit
  • Ensure that all loading of containers and trucks is conducted in a manner which is safe and maintains cargo integrity
  • Participation in emergency plan
  • Ensure hazardous Chemical regulations are met
  • Liaise with vendors to co-ordinate packing on site if required
  • Liaise closely with controllers to ensure correct configurations for loading / packing are confirmed prior to receiving of containers / trucks
  • Ensure warehouse documentation is completed accurately, on time and submitted to the controller / coordinator within an acceptable time frame
  • Provide tally sheets and manifest for cargo to be loaded in containers to allow the controllers to complete their shipping documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Negotiate rates with subcontractors
  • Take full control of all bonded cargo and updating of bond store registers
  • Control and motivate all warehouse staff under your control 
  • Ensure sufficient staff is employed for client / company demand
  • Ensure all costing schedules are updated in a timeliness manner and submitted to accounts for invoicing
  • Complete monthly reports for Management statistics
  • Management of departmental training
  • Delimitate the working zones reserved to the different activities according to flows and types of products
  • Participate to the definition of the needs in term of human and resources material
  • Check the good execution of the maintenance, preventive and/or curative of the operations (especially relative to forklifts, rolling materials, IT equipment)
  • Keep watch over cleanliness of the store
  • Oversee the security and goods preservation
  • Organize and oversee the inventories defined in contractual terms and conditions
  • Participate in continuous improvement of the procedures

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Matric (Grade 12) (or equivalent)
  • Relevant Degree
  • 5 years relevant experience
