Key purpose:

The Optimisation Specialist is responsible for the evaluation of business requirements for enterprise business application integration, service activation and delivering new or modified software systems enhancements and/or integration solutions. The individual conducts and analyses business and information technology processes and prepares essential groundwork. The incumbent participates in the definition, testing, training, implementation, and support of system requirements, identifies customer requirements, develops test schedules, reviews testing plans and tracks and documents the development and results of said system testing. The individual is generally a projects team member and alerts project managers to potential risk, issues, and threats. The individual is responsible for extracting user requirement specifications using industry standard analysis techniques such as data flow modelling, case analysis, workflow analysis, functional decomposition analysis, use case modelling and object modelling. Solicits customer requirements through interviews, workshops and/or existing system documentation or procedures.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Participate in system requirements, definition, testing, training, implementation, and support
  • Solicit customer requirements through interviews, workshops and/or existing documentation
  • Use industry standard analysis techniques and tools, to uncover and document customer requirements, such as data flow modelling, use case modelling, workflow analysis, functional decomposition analysis, data modelling and object modelling
  • Documents the results of analysis activities using the appropriate templates and/or analysis tools
  • Use prototyping where possible to solicit customer requirements (in conjunction with software developers)
  • Conduct and analyse preliminary business and information technology processes and document such processes
  • Make recommendations for necessary changes on projects that are initiated or requested by other
    departments or business units
  • Create, modify, and maintain and schedule procedures and reports
  • Identify areas of potential business risk and communicates these to project managers and key stakeholders
  • Assist business units in compiling, reviewing, and implementing policies and procedures
  • Business process alignment and re-engineering

Qualifications and experience:

  • Matric
  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent type diploma) in computer programming, computer science, or information technology or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years working experience as a Optimisation Specialist
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in an IT/Software development environment
  • Written and verbal communication, including technical writing skills
  • Understanding of systems engineering concepts
