We are seeking a Senior AI Engineer / AI Consultant to join an innovative AI & Innovation team working on advanced AI solutions within the public sector domain in Antwerp.

The role focuses on building and deploying production-ready AI applications in the areas of Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing (LLMs), supporting operational users such as analysts, investigators, and intervention teams in their daily work.

The selected candidate will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of AI solutions that operate in both locally hosted environments and integrated platforms, requiring strong engineering discipline and experience with scalable AI systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy AI applications in Computer Vision (object detection, video analysis, scene understanding)
  • Build LLM-based solutions, including chatbots and knowledge assistants
  • Design and implement speech-to-text and text intelligence systems
  • Work on AI solutions for large-scale data analysis (text, images, video)
  • Train, fine-tune, and optimize machine learning models
  • Curate and manage datasets for AI model development
  • Deploy AI solutions in cloud and on-premise environments
  • Integrate AI systems into existing operational platforms and workflows
  • Work with locally hosted LLMs and optimized inference setups
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate operational needs into AI solutions

Required skills & experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience as AI Engineer / AI Consultant
  • Strong expertise in Python for AI/ML development
  • Proven experience with LLMs and/or Computer Vision applications
  • Experience with training, fine-tuning, and dataset preparation
  • Knowledge of multiple machine learning techniques (classification, NLP, CV, etc.)
  • Experience with Docker and containerized deployments
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases
  • Understanding of production AI system design and deployment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Dutch language proficiency (C2 level)

Nice to have

  • Experience with locally hosted LLMs (vLLM, llama.cpp, or similar)
  • Knowledge of Claude Code or OpenAI Codex-style frameworks
  • Experience with NVIDIA DeepStream or video analytics pipelines
  • Experience with TypeScript, React, Node.js, or Tailwind (for AI interfaces)
  • Understanding of full-stack AI application development
  • Experience working in secure or public-sector environments
