Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on System Engineer with strong experience in hybrid Microsoft environments to support a short-term transformation and optimization project.

The role focuses on simplifying, standardizing, and optimizing an existing hybrid infrastructure (on-premises and cloud), with a strong emphasis on Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, and PowerShell automation.

You will work closely with the internal IT team and be responsible for end-to-end delivery, including analysis, execution, documentation, and knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities

Active Directory & GPO Optimization

• Analyze the current Active Directory structure and identify inconsistencies
• Clean up and restructure OU models and delegations
• Rationalize and optimize Group Policy Objects (GPOs) (remove duplication, outdated configurations, inconsistencies)
• Establish a structured, maintainable, and documented GPO architecture

Scripting & Automation

• Inventory and assess existing VBScript scripts
• Migrate legacy scripts to PowerShell, following best practices:
  • Error handling
  • Logging
  • Modular design (functions/modules)
  • Security standards
• Automate administrative tasks across Active Directory, Exchange Online, and Microsoft 365

Exchange / Exchange Online

• Analyze and optimize hybrid Exchange environments
• Improve mail flow, connectors, and transport rules
• Perform policy clean-up and optimization
• Support mailbox migrations and rationalization (archives, quotas, policies)

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Deliver clear technical documentation (As-Is / To-Be states)
• Create SOPs and operational runbooks
• Conduct knowledge transfer sessions with internal IT teams

Expected Deliverables

• AD & GPO analysis report with clean-up plan
• Rationalized and documented GPO structure
• PowerShell script library replacing legacy VBScript
• Exchange / Exchange Online optimization overview
• SOPs and runbooks for ongoing management
• Knowledge transfer documentation and sessions

Candidate Profile

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in hybrid Microsoft environments (Medior to Senior level)
• Proven experience working independently on cleanup and migration projects

Technical Skills

• Strong expertise in:
  • Active Directory (OU structure, user & computer management)
  • Group Policy (GPO) management, troubleshooting, and optimization
• Advanced experience with:
  • PowerShell scripting (best practices, automation)
  • Exchange On-Premises and Exchange Online (hybrid environments, migrations, mail flow)
• Experience migrating VBScript to PowerShell

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager
• Experience with Microsoft 365 license optimization
