Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer with strong Google Cloud Platform (GCP) expertise to design, develop, and operate scalable cloud-based data solutions.

The ideal candidate will combine strong GCP cloud and platform engineering, modern data engineering, Apache Kafka, Google Bigtable, and Scala/Java development skills. The role requires someone who can contribute to technical architecture, cloud automation, data platform design, and production-grade data pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement scalable data engineering solutions on GCP.
  • Build and maintain cloud-native data platforms and architectures.
  • Design data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration processes.
  • Develop production-grade data pipelines and applications using Scala and/or Java.
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Workflows / GitHub Actions.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
  • Support cloud architecture, automation, and DevOps practices.
  • Design and manage event-driven data architectures using Apache Kafka.
  • Perform Kafka platform design, administration, configuration, and setup.
  • Work with Google Bigtable, including design, implementation, tuning, and operational activities.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and Product Teams to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
  • Participate in and conduct technical design reviews.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the organization's cloud and data engineering practices.

Essential Skills

Google Cloud & Platform Engineering

  • Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Strong experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub Workflows / GitHub Actions.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture.
  • Experience with cloud automation and DevOps practices.

Data Engineering

  • Experience designing and implementing scalable data solutions on GCP.
  • Strong understanding of data ingestion patterns.
  • Experience with data transformation and orchestration.
  • Strong understanding of modern data platform architectures.
  • Experience building production-grade data pipelines.

Messaging & Streaming

  • Strong experience with Apache Kafka.
  • Experience with Kafka platform design, administration, and setup.
  • Understanding of event-driven architectures.

Databases

  • Hands-on experience with Google Bigtable.
  • Experience with Bigtable design and implementation.
  • Experience with Bigtable performance tuning and operations.

Development

  • Strong development skills in Scala and/or Java.
  • Experience developing production-grade applications.
  • Experience developing production-grade data pipelines.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to perform and contribute to technical design reviews.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on GCP Data Engineer with a strong combination of cloud platform engineering and data engineering expertise.

They should be comfortable working across the full data platform stack—from GCP infrastructure and Terraform through CI/CD, Kafka streaming, Bigtable, and application/data-pipeline development in Scala or Java.

Experience with technical architecture and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and product stakeholders will be highly valued.
