Job Description – Safety Officer (Medior)

We are looking for a Medior Safety Officer to support the safe execution of industrial and nuclear operations within a highly regulated environment. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with conventional and nuclear safety standards, performing radiological measurements, monitoring work activities, and advising operational teams to protect people, the environment, and company assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform radiation, contamination, and release measurements, interpret results, and recommend appropriate safety measures.
  • Conduct dose assessments, risk evaluations, and authorize the release of materials, equipment, and personnel where applicable.
  • Monitor radiation exposure levels and ensure compliance with legal dose limits.
  • Supervise industrial and nuclear activities, ensuring adherence to safety procedures before, during, and after work execution.
  • Identify unsafe situations, assess risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform routine safety inspections, contamination surveys, radiation mapping, and transport monitoring.
  • Investigate alarms, incidents, and abnormal situations, taking appropriate corrective action.
  • Support the preparation of workplace risk assessments, ALARA studies, work permits, and safety documentation.
  • Verify the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), dosimeters, and radiation monitoring equipment.
  • Monitor, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting of radiological measuring instruments.
  • Prepare incident reports, weekly reports, and maintain operational logbooks.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and awareness training to employees and contractors.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by coaching colleagues and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and supervisors to ensure effective communication and safe work execution.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Technical secondary education or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong general computer literacy and administrative skills.
  • Valid VCA VOL (Safety for Operational Supervisors) certification.
  • Knowledge of lifting operations and working at heights.
  • Knowledge of conventional and nuclear safety is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of emergency response and crisis management is considered a plus.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with operational teams.
  • Native or bilingual proficiency in Dutch.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to complete a Radiation Protection training programme within two years (training costs covered).
  • A mandatory 6-month internal training programme will be provided before assuming full responsibilities.
  • Willingness to work fully onsite.
  • Security clearance is considered an advantage.
