Senior Data Engineer – Azure & Databricks

We are looking for a senior data engineer to support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a modern Azure-based data platform for a leading public-sector organization in Aalst, Belgium.

This role focuses on designing and implementing robust data services, building ETL pipelines from Databricks, and contributing to the ongoing evolution of a cloud-based data platform. Working within an Agile environment, you will play a key role in both operational platform support and the delivery of new data engineering projects.

Contract Details

  • Location: Aalst, Belgium
  • Work Model: Hybrid (minimum one day per week on-site)
  • Start Date: 20 July 2026
  • End Date: 30 September 2026
  • Estimated Workload: Approximately 320 hours
  • Employment Type: Contract / Freelance

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain ETL processes for Azure-based data services.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines using Databricks.
  • Support the daily operation and monitoring of the Azure data platform.
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Design and implement new data engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to the continuous enhancement of the Power BI environment.
  • Ensure development follows established technical standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within an Agile delivery environment.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a data engineer.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience with Azure Data Factory.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with Databricks.
  • Strong experience designing and developing ETL pipelines.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including

    • Python
    • Java
    • Scala
  • Experience building scalable cloud-based data solutions.
  • Databricks Certification.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Dutch language proficiency at the CEFR C2 level is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise ETL processes.
  • Strong database design and development experience.
  • Experience delivering projects within government or public-sector organizations.
  • Familiarity with enterprise technical standards and governance frameworks.
  • Experience working within Agile development teams.
