  • Supporting decisions about disclosure, identifying information that may require withholding and seeking guidance on relevant exemptions or exceptions. derby.gov.uk
  • Reviewing documents and applying appropriate redactions, helping protect third-party personal information and recording the reasons for disclosure decisions.
  • Assisting with complaints, internal reviews and Information Commissioner's Office enquiries, gathering supporting evidence and maintaining clear records of actions taken. derby.gov.uk
  • Providing practical guidance to colleagues on information handling, including confidentiality, information sharing and records management, in line with council procedures. derbycsc.trixonline.co.uk
  • Supporting publication and transparency activities, helping maintain information made available through the council's publication scheme and disclosure arrangements. derby.gov.uk
  • Maintaining accurate case logs and correspondence, recording progress, outstanding actions and decisions.
  • Working collaboratively with service teams, following up information requests, resolving queries and escalating delays.
  • Contributing to process improvements, identifying opportunities to strengthen accuracy, consistency and the experience of people requesting information.

Requirements

We're looking for a proactive, analytical and discreet individual who can handle sensitive information responsibly and communicate clearly with colleagues and members of the public.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience in information governance, data protection, information rights or a comparable records and compliance role.
  • Working knowledge of the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations 2004, which form part of the council's published information governance framework. derby.gov.uk
  • Experience coordinating subject access requests or other information requests, including gathering records and preparing responses.
  • Confidence reviewing sensitive documents, identifying information requiring further consideration and applying redactions appropriately.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to explain decisions and complex information clearly.
  • Excellent attention to detail, including maintaining accurate records and checking information before disclosure.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage several cases and competing deadlines.
  • Good IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office, electronic records and relevant case management systems.
  • A professional approach to confidentiality, with the judgement to recognise risks and seek specialist guidance.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and the ability to provide employment references and complete the required pre-employment checks.
