Support Residents and Help Deliver Safe, Well-Managed Housing

We're recruiting a proactive and customer-focused Scheme Housing Officer to support Southern Housing's housing services in Northiam, Rye, East Sussex. This role combines day-to-day housing management, resident engagement, tenancy support and coordination of property-related matters to help maintain a safe, welcoming and well-managed living environment.

You'll work closely with residents, housing colleagues, contractors and external agencies, helping to resolve enquiries, address tenancy concerns and ensure residents can access appropriate advice and support.

About the Role

As Scheme Housing Officer, you'll support the effective management of a housing scheme, providing a visible and approachable point of contact for residents.

You'll help residents understand their tenancy responsibilities, coordinate responses to housing and maintenance concerns, and support the upkeep of communal areas. The role requires strong communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to balance resident needs with effective housing management.

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing a responsive housing management service, acting as a point of contact for residents and addressing day-to-day enquiries.
  • Supporting residents with tenancy-related matters, explaining responsibilities, responding to concerns and referring complex issues to the appropriate teams.
  • Monitoring the condition of the scheme and communal areas, identifying maintenance, cleanliness or safety concerns and arranging appropriate follow-up.
  • Reporting repairs and liaising with maintenance teams and contractors, helping to ensure issues are addressed and residents receive updates.
  • Supporting tenancy changes and the letting of vacant properties, working with colleagues on viewings, sign-ups and settling-in arrangements where required.
  • Helping residents access advice and support, including signposting to relevant services for financial, wellbeing or tenancy sustainment needs.
  • Supporting rent and service charge enquiries, working with income management colleagues to address concerns and encourage early engagement.
  • Responding professionally to complaints, neighbour disputes and reports of anti-social behaviour, recording concerns and escalating cases appropriately.
  • Recognising and reporting safeguarding concerns, following organisational procedures and working with relevant colleagues and agencies.
  • Encouraging resident involvement, gathering feedback and supporting activities or discussions that help improve the scheme.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records, including resident contact, tenancy matters, inspections and agreed actions.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to resolve issues and improve the resident experience.

Requirements

We're looking for an organised, approachable and solutions-focused individual with housing-related experience, strong customer service skills and a commitment to treating residents fairly and respectfully.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience in housing management, tenancy support, scheme management or a related resident-facing role.
  • An understanding of tenancy management, including resident responsibilities, tenancy sustainment and the importance of early intervention.
  • Experience supporting residents with a range of needs, maintaining professional boundaries and referring to specialist services when appropriate.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain information clearly and handle sensitive conversations.
  • A practical approach to resolving problems, including following up repairs, resident enquiries and property-related concerns.
  • Experience working with contractors, housing teams or external support agencies.
  • Awareness of safeguarding, confidentiality and health and safety responsibilities within a housing environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records and follow through on agreed actions.
  • Good IT skills, including confidence using email, Microsoft Office and relevant housing or case management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, using sound judgement when deciding when to escalate concerns.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and the ability to provide employment references and complete the required pre-employment checks.

Why Apply

  • Opportunity to make a positive difference to residents' day-to-day experience of their homes and community.
  • Varied role combining housing management, resident engagement and practical problem-solving.
  • Chance to work with housing professionals, contractors and external support services.
