VP of Design

Our client is the largest publicly listed real estate company in India, with residential, commercial, and retail properties in 15 states and 24 cities. Their malls have pioneered the retail revolution in India. From curated luxury malls to premium retail destinations to retail in office spaces, the business entity has transformed the way people interact, connect, and experience the retail landscape.

With over 900 luxury brands, and 62 million annual customers, our client is now seeking a VP of Design reporting directly to Chief Architect. The incumbent shall be associated in all stages (concept design to construction completion) as the lead and primary architect during concept stage and thereafter to ensure that the product fulfils organisations design objectives. The incumbent shall be responsible for multiple new & upcoming Retail / Mix use properties.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop design briefs and evolve a design strategy for a new project development. The design brief shall be prepared based on directions given by Senior Management and the business requirements.
• Managing all aspects of detailed feasibility study and coordination with external / internal stakeholders for design issues.
• Appointment of Design Architect & Consultants and regular interface with the Consultants and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensuring all deliverables of design are on time in coordination with all concerned internally and externally.
• Ensure compliances under NBC norms & local bye laws in the development of concept and schematic design.
• Ensuring all designs for new projects are fully compliant i.e. Govt regulations, Fire & life safety codes, etc.
• Cross-functional operational collaboration with Business Teams, Technical Services & Operations.
• Working with Design Consultants, Project Head, Project Management, Project Execution and Internal teams.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Architecture from a premium institution.
• Masters degree would be a definite plus.
• Must have minimum 15 years of experience in development of large commercial projects in India or abroad.
• International exposure and working with best-in-class Consultants and Architects.
• Must have good insight into the technical aspects of the Project Design and Development processes and provide key inputs with respect to the design and development of the project.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Must have excellent people handling capabilities for both external and in-house.
• Must have good knowledge of CODES/regulatory compliances.
• Sharp intellect with an understanding of business operations.
• Prior experience in retail design would be preferred.
• Ability to drive and manage internal and external agencies seamlessly and manage relationships.
• Strong Leadership and relationship management skills.
