Our client is a global mining company securing the critical minerals behind the energy transition, including copper, cobalt, nickel, tin, and rare earths; they invest in and operate premium mining assets.

They are seeking an Underground Mine Planning Engineer to lead the underground mine planning and design and scheduling capability within the Department.

The role requires end-to-end underground mine planning for short medium and long term and working on Companies Operational and Green field projects and further supporting across consulting assignments in the areas of Scoping, PFS, DFS.

The incumbent will be expected to deliver Life-of-Mine designs and schedules, develop and apply planning standards and require collaboration with a cross-functional team to develop the plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop underground mine designs for a range of methods (sublevel stoping/SLOS, long hole open stoping, sublevel caving, cut-and-fill, room-and-pillar etc.) design declines/Shaft, levels, or handling, ventilation primaries, and infrastructure excavations.
  • Collaborate with geology, Geotech and hydro work streams to finalize respective assumptions on quality, dilution, stability and hydrogeological constraints
  • Develop Life-of-Mine plans and schedules optimizing NPV considering capital, development, and operating constraints.
  • Build short term plan (annual, quarterly and monthly schedules) with development and stop sequencing considering parameters of equipment, ventilations, support hoisting etc.
  • Stope optimization using relevant tools to generate economically optimized stope shapes;
  • Planning for capital and operating development with optimal advance rates, considering the production rate, equipment, infrastructure etc.
  • Document the planning work in the form of technical reports, and customize the same in to Scoping, PFS and DFS as per the project requirement.
  • Engage with costing team for providing assumptions to build capital and operating cost.
  • Grow the underground planning capability over time by mentor junior planners.
  • Support in due diligence of mining asset available as a part of acquisition or tie ups.

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in mining engineering with15 years of experience in underground mining of which 5 years of experience in Underground Mine Planning Domain
  • Proficiency in Mining software such as Datamine UG/MSO and Vulcan Underground.
  • Working Knowledge of MineSched, Datamine NPV Scheduler and VentSim or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle management.
  • Proven ability to work with consultants, review technical submissions, and support strategic project goals.
