About the Role

JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced and strategic Engineering Manager to lead and coordinate engineering activities for major mining and resource development projects. This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, with travel to project sites as required during engineering, construction, and commissioning phases. The Engineering Manager will provide leadership and oversight of all engineering disciplines, ensuring high-quality, safe, and cost-effective engineering deliverables that support efficient project execution. This role is critical in bridging engineering design, procurement, construction, and field implementation, while working closely with internal teams, consultants, vendors, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, coordination, and delivery of engineering activities to ensure alignment with project safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to multidisciplinary engineering teams, including internal staff and engineering consultants.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, procurement, construction, operations, ESG, and permitting teams to ensure seamless integration of engineering into project execution.
  • Act as a key interface between engineering consultants, vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support effective technical and commercial outcomes.
  • Support permitting and regulatory requirements by ensuring engineering deliverables are completed on time and to the required standard.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and approval of engineering documents, including drawings, technical specifications, datasheets, standards, calculations, and vendor data.
  • Promote safety-in-design, constructability, maintainability, and cost-effective engineering solutions through disciplined technical review and collaboration.
  • Support procurement activities, including engineering input to procurement strategies, participation in procurement planning meetings, and technical evaluation of vendor submissions.
  • Manage engineering consultant scopes, quality, schedules, and performance, working closely with contract administration.
  • Coordinate material take-offs and support capital cost estimating activities in collaboration with project teams and consultants.
  • Develop and implement quality surveillance and inspection plans for major equipment and engineered systems.
  • Identify engineering risks and opportunities for optimization, recommending practical and innovative solutions.
  • Participate in engineering alignment sessions, design reviews, and technical workshops, providing leadership and value-added insights.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including site visits to resolve field issues and provide technical guidance.
  • Act as Package Manager for assigned equipment or service packages, as required.
  • Prepare technical reports, business cases, and recommendations to support project decision-making.
  • Ensure all work is conducted safely and in alignment with company policies, procedures, and project objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Professional Engineer designation considered an asset).
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in engineering and project execution for major capital projects, preferably in mining or resource development.
  • Strong understanding of mining operations and associated infrastructure, including mineral processing and supporting systems.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and engineering consultants.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design processes, constructability, and field execution.
  • Experience supporting permitting, regulatory, and environmental requirements through engineering design.
  • Strong project management, budgeting, and contractor/consultant management experience.
  • Ability to review and interpret complex technical studies, engineering drawings, and regulatory documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering/project management systems.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
