Job Description:

The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for the field execution and oversight of all electrical construction activities on mining and industrial projects. This includes supervising contractors, ensuring compliance with design specifications, enforcing safety and quality standards, and coordinating with project managers and engineers to meet schedule and budget objectives.

Responsibilities

The Electrical Superintendent will be responsible for the following functions:

Field Supervision:

  • Lead and supervise electrical subcontractors during installation of power distribution, MCCs, lighting, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and applicable codes (e.g., CSA, NEC).
  • Monitor progress and ensure schedule milestones are met without compromising safety or quality. This includes systems specific to mine process plants such as pump stations, flotation circuits, thickeners, and grinding mills.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Conduct inspections and testing of electrical systems, including cable terminations, grounding, and commissioning support.
  • Verify installation quality and adherence to the electrical scope of work.
  • Ensure that QA/QC documentation and turnover packages are completed and submitted on time.

Safety Leadership:

  • Enforce site safety policies and participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
  • Identify and mitigate field hazards and ensure electrical lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
  • Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement among the electrical crews.

Coordination:

  • Interface with other superintendents, construction managers, and engineering teams to resolve field issues.
  • Support work planning, material tracking, and coordination of energization and commissioning activities.
  • Communicate field status updates, progress, and any issues impacting execution.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of electrical construction experience, including 3+ years in a superintendent or leadership role.
  • Journeyperson Electrician certification or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with industrial and mining electrical systems and CSA/NEC electrical codes.
  • Strong knowledge of safety practices, field coordination, and contractor supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and vendor data. Experience with electrical infrastructure in crushing, grinding, flotation, and other process plant facilities is preferred.

Work Schedule & Location

  • Typically 12 hours per day
  • On site rotational work (14x14, 28x28, etc.)
  • Travel time to/from a project site are paid from point of hire to a maximum of 8 hours per travel day.
