About the Role

JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced Civil Field Engineer with a strong focus on concrete construction and quality assurance to support safe, accurate, and efficient field execution across mining and energy projects. This role provides field engineering and QA support for concrete‑intensive scopes, including batch plant operations, piling works, and structural concrete installation.

The Civil Field Engineer is directly involved in concrete pre‑planning, pour readiness, field verification, and documentation, ensuring all concrete work is completed in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and safety standards. Working closely with engineering, construction, quality, and contractor teams, this role supports the translation of concrete design intent, details, and sequencing into effective field execution.

This position plays a key role in daily concrete construction support, quality inspections, documentation control, and verification of concrete, contributing to successful turnover and handover of concrete structures and foundations.

This is a site‑based, fly‑in/fly‑out (FIFO) position working a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off (2x2) rotation.

Key Responsibilities

Civil Field Engineering

  • Provide field engineering and technical support for all Civil construction activities, with a primary emphasis on concrete execution, including:
    • Concrete batch plant operations and production coordination
    • Piling and deep foundation concrete works
    • Concrete placement, finishing, curing, and structural installation
  • Support concrete pre‑planning, pour sequencing, and workface planning for upcoming civil scopes
  • Assist with concrete pour readiness, ensuring drawings, embeds, rebar, formwork, testing, and approvals are complete prior to placement

Quality Assurance & Concrete Compliance

  • Ensure all concrete work is executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, concrete mix designs, procedures, and applicable codes
  • Perform QA/QC inspections related to concrete preparation, placement, and curing
  • Review, track, and verify inspection and test plans (ITPs), concrete test results, and quality documentation
  • Support concrete testing activities, including slump, air, temperature, breaks, and compression testing

Contractor Support & Issue Resolution

  • Provide day‑to‑day support to contractors executing concrete and structural scopes
  • Identify, document, and assist in resolving concrete‑related field issues, RFIs, NCRs, and design clarifications
  • Verify corrective actions related to concrete deficiencies or non‑conformances

Documentation & Coordination

  • Maintain accurate concrete pour records, inspection reports, progress tracking, and as‑built documentation
  • Coordinate closely with CSA Superintendents, Project Engineers, QA/QC, and Construction Management
  • Interface with engineering teams to support concrete constructability reviews, detailing, sequencing, and execution planning
  • Participate in daily coordination meetings and clearly communicate concrete progress, constraints, and quality concerns

Safety & Turnover

  • Promote a strong safety culture specific to concrete construction activities, including formwork, rebar, lifting, and pours
  • Ensure compliance with all site safety policies and procedures during concrete operations
  • Support commissioning, turnover, and handover activities related to concrete foundations, structures, and civil scope

Package Details

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5–8 years of experience in construction or field engineering with a strong focus on civil scopes
  • Experience supporting civil works on mining, industrial, or infrastructure projects
  • Hands‑on experience with:
    • Concrete works
    • Piling operations
    • Batch plant activities
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction procedures
  • Experience performing field inspections and quality assurance activities
  • Familiarity with construction documentation, including RFIs, NCRs, and turnover packages
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Engineering degree, technical diploma, or equivalent industry experience in a related discipline
  • Familiarity with construction scheduling and reporting systems considered an asset
  • Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills
