About the Role

JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Environmental Manager to lead environmental management and compliance activities for a major mining project located in the interior of British Columbia. This is a camp-based, fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) position operating on a rotational schedule, with full camp accommodations provided while on site. The Senior Environmental Manager will provide leadership and oversight of all environmental programs, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting efficient project execution. This role is critical in bridging regulatory commitments, environmental design, and field implementation, while building strong relationships with regulators, Indigenous groups, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental management systems and programs
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and permit requirements, including environmental assessment commitments
  • Oversee environmental monitoring programs, including water, air, wildlife, and reclamation activities
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and supervision to environmental staff and contractors
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders on environmental matters
  • Support permitting activities, permit amendments, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Review and approve environmental reports, technical studies, and monitoring results
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to integrate environmental requirements into project execution
  • Identify environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize environmental impacts
  • Lead environmental incident investigations, reporting, and corrective actions
  • Manage environmental budgets, consultants, and contractor performance
  • Support engagement with Indigenous communities and local stakeholders on environmental matters
  • Drive a culture of environmental responsibility, compliance, and continuous improvement across the site
  • Ensure all work is conducted safely and in alignment with company policies and project objectives

Package Details

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 8–15+ years of progressive experience in environmental management within mining, construction, or resource development
  • Strong knowledge of British Columbia environmental regulations, permitting processes, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with environmental assessments (EA/EIS) and permitting for major projects
  • Proven leadership experience managing environmental teams in camp-based or site-based environments
  • Strong understanding of environmental monitoring programs, data interpretation, and reporting
  • Experience working with regulators, Indigenous groups, and external stakeholders
  • Ability to review and interpret technical studies, engineering designs, and regulatory documents
  • Strong project management, budgeting, and contractor management experience
  • Proficiency with environmental data systems and Microsoft Office tools
  • Willingness to work rotational schedules and travel as required
