About the Role

We are seeking a Data Engineer to join a growing digital solutions team. The successful candidate will build, maintain, and optimise an AWS and Snowflake data platform that supports internal analytics and external data products.

This role involves developing reliable data pipelines, implementing data quality controls, managing data workflows, and ensuring secure and efficient data delivery. Working closely with the Data Architect and distributed teams, the Data Engineer will help translate platform standards into scalable, production-ready solutions.

The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in Python, SQL, AWS, and Snowflake, along with excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to data quality, security, and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and optimise production-grade data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery using AWS and Snowflake.
  • Implement Change Data Capture (CDC) pipelines and manage schema evolution across application databases and external data sources.
  • Develop and maintain workflow orchestration, including error handling, retries, monitoring, alerting, and operational documentation.
  • Implement automated data quality checks and controls to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
  • Design and maintain medallion architecture, including bronze, silver, and gold data layers, to support analytics and business intelligence.
  • Optimise data storage, partitioning, query performance, and cloud resource usage across AWS and Snowflake.
  • Develop and maintain secure, versioned APIs and data feeds for internal and external consumers.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code using Terraform, and environment management.
  • Support data catalogue development, including data lineage, access controls, ownership, and business glossaries.
  • Collaborate with the Data Architect and other stakeholders to implement platform standards and support data consumption requirements.
  • Maintain technical documentation, data flow records, and operational runbooks.
  • Apply AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery efficiency while protecting sensitive information.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically five or more years of experience in data engineering or demonstrable experience delivering reliable, production-grade cloud data solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data engineering and transformation.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, particularly S3, DMS, Lambda, and Step Functions.
  • Practical experience with Snowflake, including SQL, Python, Tasks, role-based access control, data cataloguing, and data quality management.
  • Experience implementing CDC pipelines and handling schema changes.
  • Experience developing automated data quality checks and controls.
  • Familiarity with medallion architecture and dimensional data modelling.
  • Knowledge of API development and secure data delivery using API Gateway, Lambda, and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Terraform, Git, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools, with the ability to validate generated outputs and safeguard sensitive data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a focus on delivering reliable, scalable data solutions.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with clear asynchronous communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a distributed team.
  • A strong understanding of data privacy, security, and governance, particularly in a financial services environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in financial services or investment management, particularly with asset manager, fund, or investment data.
  • Previous experience working in a remote or distributed team.
  • Experience working with analytical or AI-assisted solutions within Snowflake.
