About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile bank and credit card transactions daily, applying the correct GST and account codes.
- Manage Dext by reviewing and coding incoming bills and receipts to the correct accounts and GST for export to Xero. Prepare batch payment files in Xero for review, ensuring accuracy and completeness before submission.
- Assist in the timely preparation of payroll, ensuring compliance with Fair Work and legal requirements, subject to review.
- Assist in preparing and lodging BAS, IAS, and superannuation payments.
- Support financial reporting and month-end journal entries.
- Record and reconcile accruals, prepayments, and WorkCover journal entries to support accurate month-end financials.
- Consistently meet all reporting and payment deadlines to avoid penalties and maintain the business's reputation.
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors as required.
- Proactively identify and implement improvements to processes and internal controls.
- Perform ad hoc accounting and administrative tasks as assigned by the Finance team or management.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in Australian accounting.
- Proficient in Xero accounting software.
- Experience with Employment Hero and Dext is a plus.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to resolve queries and ensure smooth financial operations.
- Strong ability to work independently: Demonstrates initiative and proactiveness, quickly learns new instructions, and consistently meets deadlines.
