Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Construction & Estimating

  • Prepare detailed, accurate, and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions
  • Measure quantities and develop project budgets using CostX
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and project requirements
  • Conduct first-principles measuring and estimating, including detailed concrete and carpentry breakdowns
  • Prepare detailed trade takeoffs suitable for procurement, builder ordering, and live construction requirements
  • Measure and quantify carpentry and structural elements using detailed nuts and bolts takeoff methodologies (e.g., wall framing in linear metres, framing, finishes, joinery, etc.)
  • Prepare detailed concrete takeoffs, including supply, place, pump, and formwork breakdowns
  • Review and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations
  • Assist in value engineering and cost optimization initiatives

Tender & Documentation Management

  • Administer tender documentation through Procore
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and professional tender submission letters
  • Ensure all estimating activities align with company processes, procedures, and systems

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers during pre-construction phases
  • Collaborate closely with project and operational teams regarding buildability, tender programs, and project delivery
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Support innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives within estimating processes
  • Share knowledge and mentor team members where appropriate
  • Maintain awareness of project risks, timelines, budgets, and cost controls

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Promote and uphold a strong health and safety culture aligned with company standard
  • Adhere to all H&S policies, procedures, and mandatory training requirements

  • Ensure compliance with relevant construction legislation and local government regulations

Customer & Relationship Management

  • Deliver high-quality service that meets and exceeds client expectations
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, consultants, and project partners
  • Address client concerns professionally to support successful project outcomes

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of estimating experience within commercial construction environments (Tier 2 projects preferred
  • Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficient in CostX (required)
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and live construction methodologies
  • Strong budgeting, cost control, procurement, and commercial risk management skills
  • Experience in tendering, negotiation, and subcontractor management
  • Proven experience preparing detailed construction-level takeoffs and procurement-ready quantity measurements
  • Strong capability in first-principles estimating, including detailed concrete and carpentry breakdowns
  • Experience measuring carpentry elements such as framing, finishes, and joinery in detailed formats suitable for procurement and ordering
  • Strong preference for candidates with Main Contractor experience in Australia or New Zealand
  • Candidates with exposure to live construction and hands-on estimating environments will be highly regarded
  • Reduced focus on purely consultancy-based QS cost planning backgrounds; preference will be given to candidates with practical, site-based estimating experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of the Construction Contracts Act and Local Government regulations is advantageous
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and manage competing priorities effectively
