Automation Controls Technician

Location: North Vernon, IN

Job Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire (12 Months)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Automation Controls Technician to support manufacturing operations through troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automated production equipment. This role will focus on automation systems, electrical controls, CNC equipment, robotics, conveyors, and industrial manufacturing processes.

The ideal candidate will have experience with manufacturing process controls, industrial automation systems, and Allen Bradley and/or Fanuc controls. This position offers the opportunity to work in a highly automated manufacturing environment while contributing to equipment reliability, process improvements, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for manufacturing automation systems and equipment.
  • Participate in automation equipment design, development, installation, and launch activities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and control-related issues.
  • Support production operations by maintaining CNC equipment, conveyors, robotics, and automated systems.
  • Perform control system modifications, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Diagnose equipment failures using structured troubleshooting techniques.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, technical drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Research and identify replacement parts and equipment components.
  • Maintain maintenance records and communicate findings to production and engineering teams.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in:

    • Automated Manufacturing
    • Electronics
    • Computer Science
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Tool Engineering Technology
    • Related technical field

    Equivalent relevant work experience may also be considered.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing process controls or industrial automation.
  • Working knowledge of industrial hardware and operating computer systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Allen Bradley controls and PLC systems.
  • Experience with Fanuc controls.
  • Experience supporting CNC equipment and machine automation.
  • Experience working with industrial robotics.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
