About the job CRANE OPERATOR
Summary
Crane operators control lifting machinery, he will safely operate cranes to transfer heavy objects from one location to another. Occasionally, they set up and repair equipment. Reports To:
This position reports to the Port Engineer and/or his/her designee. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate cranes and hoists
Transfer loads to construction sites and discharge safely
Bind loads to cranes
Keep and update maintenance and activity log
Carry out basic repairs to machines
Assist in calculates load capacity, determining weight of items to be moved in relation to the maximum capacity of crane based on manufacturers specifications.
Inspect equipment and machinery to ensure its safety
Inspects clearances, overhead lines, and other possible obstructions to ensure there are no accidents or damage to employees, buildings, loads, or equipment.
Inspects and assesses ground conditions to ensure that the crane can be set up safely.
Inspects cranes for defects and wear prior to operation; performs necessary repairs or maintenance.
Coordinate with ground operators and interpret hand and verbal signals
Comply with all applicable company safety laws, guidelines, and best practices.
Maintains logs and records of operation activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of apprenticeship for crane operators required.
Valid license to operate heavy equipment required.
Good command in English, both spoken and written.
Must be certified, conversant with all types of lifting equipment
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems. Language Skills
Must be able to communicate with crane operator via signs and have good command in spoken
Fluency in English.
Good verbal and written communication skills to understand instructions, applicable safety regulations, and to maintain records. Physical Demands
Must have the physical capacity to lift heavy loads with ease
Profound commercial driving experience
Well-developed communication and teamwork skills,
Spatial awareness, which enables the rigger to appropriately move bulky and awkward materials through tight spaces. The employee is frequently required to stand walk and sit. On Occasions the employee must lift and / or move up to 50lbs.
The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
Specific vision abilities are required by this job includes vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The employee must be available after hours and on weekends/holidays unless prior planning is arranged to keep track of the vessels that he/she are responsible for – to communicate with vessel, agents, owners, etc. Work Environment
