The incumbent will be responsible for performing and reporting on surveillance for healthcare-associated infection. Investigating and advising on outbreak management. Providing a clinical advisory service for infection prevention-related issues.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

To implement a common set of standards for Infection Control and Quality practices at the Joint Medical Holdings - Hospital for Good Clinical Governance

To constantly evaluate evidence from current practices and to implement the necessary changes.

To minimize all clinical and infection Control risks to our patients, staff, other health care workers and community, thereby providing quality cost effective service.

To give clear direction about the segregation, handling, transportation, storage, and disposal of Health Care Risk Waste (HCRW) and manage all processes.

To guide and educate hospital staff in the appropriate measures to reduce infection, monitoring the processes of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization and monitoring CSSD process and biological testing.

To provide comprehensive monitoring of support services e.g. cleaning services with routine cleaning programs ensuring well trained staff and regularly monitored standards.

Monitoring and Surveillance of HBA within the environment and from the patient and staff population with appropriate reporting to authorities.

Monitoring and surveilling staff health at entry, periodicals and on exit and monitoring staff immunization.

Monitoring Best Care Bundle practices for the prevention of HAI's and clinical risks as per JMH protocols.

Monitoring Hang time compliance of Antibiotics with adequate supervision and support to the clinical departments. Attending AMS and AFS meetings at hospital, group level as well as at Stewardship forums.

Gathering and analyzing infection data, facts and trends that is evidence based and reporting endemics.

Provide training and education to medical, nursing, and non-nursing personnel and to run workshops.

Notification of communicable diseases to NDOH-CDC as legislated.

Setting up an infection control committee with regular feedback to management on infection and quality KPI's.

COMPETENCIES (The following will be advantageous)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

(Educational Qualifications & Experience)

  • Matric.
  • Must be registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with valid APC and at least 5-7 years' experience in the clinical setting.
  • Must have a valid 6 months to 1 year Infection control certificate from an accredited NEI.
  • Must have at least 3-5 years' experience working exclusively in IPC and Quality management

SKILLS

(Practical & Technical)

  • Strong knowledge of infection control principles, healthcare-associated infections, isolation precautions, hand hygiene, and outbreak management.
  • Ability to conduct infection surveillance, analyse infection trends, perform audits, monitor compliance, and prepare reports using data and quality indicators.
  • Experience developing and implementing IPC policies, ensuring compliance with South African healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and occupational health requirements.
  • Skilled in educating healthcare workers, conducting staff training, assessing competencies, and promoting infection prevention best practices across the facility.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead quality improvement initiatives and influence positive practice changes.
